WTF is wrong with people? Friday March 24, 2006, 4 comments

A “moderate” muslim cleric in Afghanistan, among others, is calling for the death of a 41 year old man because – and get this – the guy converted to Christianity. This same cleric was jailed three times by the Taliban for being too moderate.

What the hell is wrong with people?

I think this sort of Muslim must carefully consider Christianity for a moment. The religions are actually not so different. Fundamentalist Christians could make a case for killing all non-Christians, ie; Muslims.

They have all the suicide bombers, its true. But Christians have all the bombs. And they don’t have to die to set them off. A simple flick of the wrist, and poof, the problem vanishes in a cloud of fungal proportions.

Of course, Christians for the most part don’t want to do that. For the most part, Christians, even the fundamentalist ones, are more than content to watch the Simpsons and eat McDonalds. Sure, you get the occasional whack job that bombs an abortion clinic or something, but on the whole, Christians can’t be bothered with religious wars any more.

The nation of Islam has some serious publicity issues. The rest of the world thinks they’re a religions of rabid Xenophobes, and while its true that western press is probably fueling this fire a bit, but they aren’t exactly inventing the footage of muslims stoning other muslims, right?

The sooner the true moderate Muslims can get the fundamentalists out of high places, the sooner we can all get down to watching some really meaningful television. In fact, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for America to get the fundamentalists out of power either.

Pass me that Egg McMuffin, would you?

“Christians can’t be bothered with religious wars any more.”

I guess the war on Iraq has nothing to do with religion then?

I think you’ll find that most muslims are more than content to watch the Simpsons and eat McDonalds too. We see the muslim fundamentalists in our news reports, they see the christian fundamentalists in theirs. I wish it was true that the christian fundamentalists were content to bide quietly at home. Perhaps america should in fact lead the way in the whole clean out job.

Jorge, the war in Iraq has little to do with war, and a lot to do with politics, and keeping your friends happy.

As for most Muslims, I knw tiger. I know. I was generalizing in a way the american press would envy.

It doesn’t change the basic point though.

Man this is how religions go. This is essentially the crusades all over again. Or the inquistion. It sux to be the target no doubt, but theres not much you can do. Oh and you know you can have a million people and only have one of em be bad. That one makes the rest look bad. Shitty but true.

Commenting has ended for this post, but I'd still love to hear from you.
